Stem cell therapy
Stem cell therapy is being studied in neurodegenerative disease for its ability to calm inflammation and support nerve tissue. In a randomized multiple sclerosis trial, patients who received their own bone marrow stem cells were more likely to have a year without new disease activity than those given a sham procedure. Benefit was clearer with injection into the spinal fluid than with IV treatment. This is not a cure, and results vary by condition.
